“The Ever Evolving Gender Roles of Women”

“The Evolution of Marketable Feminine Objectification”

The way women have been portrayed through social media, whether it be commercials, ads in magazine or billboards has drastically changed throughout the years. The stereotypes of how women should be are conveyed more in recent present day commercials. The drastic change has happened so quickly that we as a society have become weathered to it, we feel as though it is normal to see a women practically wearing nothing in a commercial or ad. This is not ok and we need to be known that the way we view women today should be less about the their body and more about the product in which they are trying to sell. In this exhibition you will be introduced to remixes made by me, Zena Kirby, Rebecca Panitch and Elizabeth Eagle. All the remixes show this change and also how women in general are viewed.

Find Card:

Find a piece of artwork that has changed the way women are viewed from before the 1970’s to current day. What are the stereotypes and how are women viewed from then to now? Do you think the way the evolution of the way women are portrayed make people think differently of the women in general? Do you feel as though we as a society allow this type of “on display” type of ads and commercials to be ok?
